Officials say a former Glen Cove resident is among the dozens wounded in the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, FL, this past weekend.
According to authorities, Marissa Delgado, who grew up in Glen Cove and currently lives in Orlando, was shot 12 times when a gunman opened fire in the packed nightclub. Published reports say 50 people, including the gunman, were killed in the shooting, while 53 others were injured. According to a Facebook post by Delgado’s mother, the critically injured Glen Cove native is alive and is recovering from surgery.
Reports state the gunman specifically targeted Pulse because it is a gay nightclub. Officials are calling the attack the worst in U.S. history since 9/11.
