Manhasset resident Elaine Phillips, who currently holds the position of mayor of the Village of Flower Hill, was nominated to run for the New York State Senate, Seventh District, at the Nassau County Republican Convention. “I am honored to be nominated to run for the State Senate in the Seventh District,” said Phillips. “I believe that, as a member of the State Senate, I would be in a position to continue my work to reduce property taxes, protect the environment and provide every child with an opportunity to succeed.”
The Seventh Senate District is currently held by State Senator Jack Martins, who is not seeking reelection this year to the Senate.
Phillips was born and raised by working parents in Pennsylvania. Her father worked in the steel mill and her mother was head cook at the American Legion. She was the first from her family to attend college and received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Penn State. She began her career as a financial analyst for Met Life and ultimately as a vice president in Institutional Sales for Goldman Sachs. She married her husband, Andy, and they have three daughters—Kate, Hannah and Sarah.
The Village of Flower Hill spans three locales including Roslyn, Manhasset and Port Washington. She has successfully worked with state and local governments to spearhead beautification and transportation projects including traffic calming through the village. She chairs a committee with East Hills and the Town of North Hempstead to upgrade investment advisory services for the Roslyn Length of Service Award Program and wrote a new investment policy.
Phillips has been active in many community organizations, having served as president of the Munsey Park School Community Association, a member of the Manhasset Schools’ Citizens’ Advisory Committee on Finance and a member of the Buckley Country Day School’s Board of Trustees. She was also a board member of the Science Museum of LI and is currently on the Development Council for the College of Liberal Arts of Pennsylvania
State University.
As mayor, Phillips fixed the village finances she inherited and cut taxes every year. In the State Senate, Phillips will look to deliver a fair share of
state school aid, provide property tax relief and work to make Long Island
a more affordable place to live for
middle-class families and their children.
She has a passion for the environment. Her innovative environmental preservation program earned the village a national green designation, has helped promote energy conservation and worked to protect our groundwater. Phillips will lead the fight to protect Long Island’s environment for future generations.
Phillips has also secured the nomination to run on the Conservative ballot line in November’s election for State Senate.
