Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano congratulated third grader Madeleine Abbot of Lee Avenue Elementary School in Hicksville, for winning an essay contest, sponsored by the Humane Society and North Shore Animal League. Mangano was joined by Sandra DeFeo and Elinor Molbegott of the Humane Society, and Jayne Vitale of North Shore Animal League, to congratulate all the student winners of the contest, at recent a ceremony at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola.
The students were tasked with writing an essay about what they would do to help protect and save animals. There were winners from across Nassau County, from grades 3 through 5.
“I would like to thank the Humane Society, who does a wonderful job providing veterinary care, abuse prevention and adoption services, as well as the North Shore Animal League for their dedication in finding homes for abandoned animals,” said Mangano. “Congratulations to all of the essay winners. Your words of protecting, healing and caring for animals are truly inspiring.”
