Port Washington resident Tony D’Urso is running for the state assembly seat held by Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel. Schimel recently announced that she would not seek reelection. D’Urso was endorsed last week by the North Hempstead Democratic Committee.
D’Urso is no stranger to politics, as he was the town councilman for 14 years.
“I’m obsessed with integrity, moral standards and ethical standards,” said D’Urso during an interview with Anton Community Newspapers.
“Tony is the right person for the job and he’s the best choice to fill the shoes of Michelle Schimel,” said John Ryan, chairman of the North Hempstead Democratic Committee. “He has great experience, true Democratic values and a proven ability to get things done.”
D’Urso has lived in Port Washington since 2005. He emigrated to the U.S. as a young man from Italy.
“I spent many years going to night school and working to get an education and lived the American dream,” said D’Urso. “The dream is getting far out of reach for too many people. I want to work to lower property taxes, protect our schools, our environment and our quality of life. We need to do a better job of creating and keeping good jobs on Long Island. I want to make our state legislature stronger and more accountable.”
D’Urso’s top priorities are creating jobs, reforming Albany and easing the tax burden on residents.
