Sewanhaka Central High School District’s Board of Education presented Distinguished Service Resolutions to outgoing trustees Joseph Armocida and Joan Romagnoli during its June 28 meeting at Sewanhaka High School.
Armocida and Romagnoli each served on the district’s board for 10 years, in addition to serving on their component elementary school’s boards for 15 years and 12 years, respectively. Board of Education President David Fowler thanked the pair for their service, saying it was a pleasure to serve with them. He also acknowledged the Board’s ability to work as a team to the benefit of all of the district’s students.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ralph Ferrie also expressed his gratitude to the outgoing board members.
“We as an administration certainly appreciate how much this board provides us the support we need to do our work and that’s something we talk about regularly, so thank you,” he said. “We really appreciate you.”
The board also recognized the retirements of H. Frank Carey High School Principal Valerie Angelillo and Sewanhaka High School Principal Debra Lidowsky, who are set to retire. Angelillo served in the district for 48 years, while Lidowsky served for 32 years.
Additional recognition was given to Sewanhaka High School physical education teacher Erica Brennan, girls’ lacrosse coach Alison Leighton and Physical Education Chairman John Niven. The trio was honored with Unsung Hero Awards for saving the life of a man who collapsed on the school’s field during a game.
