A highlight of the program will be a presentation to the winner of the Town of Oyster Bay’s 2016 “Veteran of the Year” Award.

Dennis Dietrich is this year’s recipient of the Town’s Veteran of the Year Award. Dennis, a United States Navy Veteran, is past commander of American Legion’s Massapequa Post 1066 having served as Commander from 2011-2013. He currently serves as Treasurer of the Post and is also the membership officer of Nassau County’s American Legion. The Legion has long been a leader in providing support for our nation’s veterans. Under the able direction of men like Dennis, American Legion’s Massapequa Post 1066 has continued to be a force within the veteran community, providing assistance to those in need, building awareness to important issues of concern and participating in numerous worthwhile events and charitable endeavors.

Dennis is very active with the organization and strives on a daily basis to build its membership. He has been instrumental in helping countless veterans and veteran organizations. He is always endeavoring to reach out to veterans and their families and offer assistance. He is extremely active with advocating for the needs of veterans at every level of government, detailing the needs of those who have borne the ravages of their service both physically and mentally. His commitment to United States veterans is exemplary, extensive and extraordinary.

“There is no greater recognition than to be acknowledged by one’s peers,” Supervisor Venditto said. “The legacy of this Dennis Dietrich’s involvement on issues and concerns affecting veterans is to be truly commended.”

“The ‘Salute to America,’ which is free to residents of the town, has become an annual event and is just a small way in which the Town shows its appreciation for our men and women currently enlisted in the military, many of whom are fighting every day to help protect our country’s freedom, as well as honor veterans for their service to our country,” Supervisor Venditto said. “The town’s veterans deserve the continuing support of the entire community for the extraordinary sacrifices they’ve made to keep America ‘the land of the free.’  I believe the ‘Salute to America’ and the Veteran of the Year Award are tangible ways we can remind our veterans that their efforts are not forgotten. I hope to see a large crowd in attendance at the award ceremony and concert on July 12.”
