Selena Ruiz, a Child and Family Studies major from Westbury, was a proud member of the 2016 SUNY Oneonta softball team. After finishing the season with an overall record of 22-17 and 11-7 in the SUNY Athletic Conference, the Red Dragons successfully qualified for the conference tournament as the No. 4 seed.
Ruiz was named the starting catcher for 37 games while appearing in 38, where she recorded 143 put outs and 14 assists. Not only did she dominate defensively, Ruiz also had a great season at the plate. Hitting .322 with 39 hits, five of those doubles, she also drove in nine runs and scored 18.
