Summer Art Opportunities
Share the wonders of summer at Nassau County Museum of Art. Explore indoor and outdoor art at the museum, including the artworks hung in the museum galleries and the natural beauty of the museum’s 145-acre property including trails, forest and ponds. The museum offers two, two-week sessions, each running Monday through Friday. Session 1 is Aug. 1-12, Session 2 is Aug. 15-26.
New for summer 2016 are two different summer programs, each designed to meet the skills and interests of given age groups.
Summer Art Lab
Ages 5–10, Mon.–Fri., 9 a.m.–noon
Summer Art Lab will be full of indoor and outdoor adventures that offer playful and creative opportunities for children through a mix of art-making, science activities, group projects and more.
Each week is centered on thematic inspirations that incorporate art and science, ranging from botany and printmaking to habitats and sculpture. Different art and science activities will be explored in each session.
Teen Summer Studio
Ages 11–16, Mon.–Fri., 1-4 p.m.
Teen Summer Studio offers participants the chance to develop and refine their art techniques and skills across a variety of media. Taking inspiration from the museum’s exhibitions and outdoor natural environment, young artists will use professional-level art materials as they master the core elements of drawing, painting and sculpture. Teens will also gain a behind-the-scenes look at working in a museum, noting the many skills and abilities that go into creating a museum exhibition. At the end of each two-week session, teen artists will curate their work in an exhibition at the museum. Different projects will be investigated and built upon in each session.
Two-week sessions of either program are $750 ($650 for museum members) and include a $50 materials fee. For details or to register, please visit www.nassaumuseum.org.
