Sen. Jack M. Martins secured $25,000 in state funding for The Safe Center LI. The funding will be used to help cover costs associated with providing comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence and programs to prevent domestic abuse.
“When someone is victimized by a family member or intimate partner, they must be able to access help to deal with the physical and emotional trauma,” said Martins. “The Safe Center LI provides a wide array of services to victims of domestic violence in their time of need, as well programs to help combat this all too prevalent crime. This funding will help support that important work.”
The Safe Center LI is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to protect, assist and empower victims of family violence and sexual assault while challenging and changing social systems that tolerate and perpetuate abuse. Located at the former Grumman complex in Bethpage, the center offers a broad spectrum of services, including counseling, advocacy, housing for victims and community educational programs.
“Thanks to Senator Martins’ efforts, The Safe Center will be able to help more families be safe and heal from the traumas they have experienced as we work to make every home a safe home,” said Sandy Oliva, the center’s co-executive director. “We are very grateful for his help.”
