June 1

Officer Baker arrested a 52-year-old Westbury male for the theft of numerous clothing items valued at $2,000 from Lord & Taylor; he was charged with grand larceny.

Officers, along with the Garden City Fire Department, responded to a report of a power outage in the area of Old Country Road and Garden City Plaza, resulting in numerous traffic light outages and a smoke condition in the Garden City Plaza buildings. The buildings were evacuated as a safety precaution until power was restored and the area was deemed safe.

Officers are investigating a two-vehicle property damage accident on Clinton Road and Stewart Avenue where one of the vehicles, described as a maroon Volkswagen, left the scene without stopping.

June 2

Officers assisted the Garden City Fire Department with a gas leak call at a Magnolia Avenue residence and another gas leak call at a Franklin Avenue business.

Officers responded to a traffic light malfunction on Old Country Road at Clinton Road.

As a result of a joint investigation on County Seat Drive with the Nassau County Probation Department, Officer Walsh charged a 33-year-old Hempstead male with driving with a suspended license.

June 4

Officers assisted the Garden City Fire Department with gas leak call on Lee Road.

Officers assisted the fire department with the safe removal of a person stuck in an elevator on Cherry Valley Avenue.

Officers safeguarded a sinkhole on Brompton Road. The Village of Garden City Water Department responded to correct the condition.

June 5

A package delivered by the post office to a Damson Street residence was reported stolen.

Officers responded to a traffic light malfunction on Stewart Avenue at Edgemere Road.

June 6

A Pell Terrace resident reports a criminal mischief to his vehicle while it was parked in his driveway. Two unknown subjects were seen running from the driveway after the activation of the car alarm.

As a result of a joint investigation on County Seat Drive with the Nassau County Probation Department, Officer Reilly charged a 32-year-old Oceanside male with driving with a suspended license and invalid use of an out-of-state dealer plate.

June 7

Officer Hennessy arrested a M/48 from Hempstead for leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury and driving with a suspended/revoked license. The subject was involved in a three-vehicle accident on Franklin Avenue and left the scene without stopping. One of the drivers of the other vehicle suffered a minor neck injury.

Officers assisted Garden City firefighters with a kitchen fire in a condo at 100 Hilton Ave. The fire was extinguished; the condo as well as adjacent condos suffered water damage from the building sprinkler system.

Officers rendered aid to a pool worker at Double Day Court; he had accidentally inhaled fumes from a chlorine/acid spill. The Garden City Fire Department responded to the scene to safeguard the area and clean up the spill. The worker was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Nassau County Fire Marshall and police department emergency services also responded to the scene.
