Justine Higgins (Bendik) of Levittown, passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Flower Hill on July 2, 2016 at 95 years old.
Born in New York City, she worked for IBM before marrying and moving to Long Island in 1948. She was active in the early years of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Levittown
Fire Department, where her husband was a charter member and served for 38 years. She was employed by the Island Trees School District for 27 years.She devoted her life to her family and leaves behind two daughters, Justine (Emitt) Cancryn of Kissimmee, FL and Catherine (Ed) Dempsey of Hicksville. Her grandchildren were a constant delight: Debra (Kevin) Kavanaugh of Levittown; Michael Banks of Lake Forest, CA and Kelly Dempsey of Hicksville. Great-grandchildren: Olivia, Ian and Abigail Kavanaugh. Justine is also survived by a sister Anne Gutierrez of Sea Cliff, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is a stepson John (Fran) Higgins of Wellington, FL and stepdaughter sister pre-deceased her.
A private family viewing was held on Tuesday, July 5, at Charles J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Wantagh, followed by a burial at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale.
