The Sewanhaka Central High School District Office of PPS and the SEPTA organization honored eight graduating sixth-grade students from the Floral Park-Bellerose elementary school districts with certificates and scholarships to recognize their outstanding accomplishments and award-winning essays that the students wrote about their “someone special.”
The “someone special” was a teacher/staff member who helped them succeed during their time in elementary school. Congratulations to James Goldberg from the Floral Park-Bellerose School and Jordan Grisafi from the John Lewis Child School.
“This is a fabulous way to acknowledge the elementary school students and staff and welcome them to the high school district,” SEPTA President Inga Krevatas said.
A graduating senior from each high school in the district was also presented with the Brent Smith Memorial Scholarship. The students were selected for their award-winning essays that described the ways in which a teacher inspired, motivated and encouraged them to be successful. Congratulations to Elmont Memorial’s Jovany Ventura-Rocha, Floral Park Memorial’s Grace Jakob, H. Frank Carey’s Gabrianna Mangiaracina, New Hyde Park Memorial’s Anita Ravenell DeSantis and Sewanhaka High School’s Jailene Alvarado.
The last award to be presented was the Susan Cuccio Scholarship Award, which was given to a graduating senior who will be pursuing a career as a special education teacher. This year’s honorees are Floral Park Memorial’s Sarah Leonardi and New Hyde Park Memorial’s Meagan Dauble.
