Summer Active Parenting Groups For Parents
“Active Parenting” is perhaps the most effective program ever offered in the how-to of raising children. YES Community Counseling Center will be conducting a program this summer titled Active Parenting of Teens (ages 12-18). From 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Massapequa office of the YES Community Counseling Center. Each program runs for six weeks and the cost of the program is $75 per family. Book Buddies Teen Training
Interested in participating in the Book Buddies Under the Stars program, going on Wednesdays this July? If you haven’t taken this training class before, you must take it in order to participate in Book Buddies. A training session will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at Central Avenue. Book Buddies will be on Wednesday July 20 and 27, from 7 to 7:45 p.m. on the Central Avenue patio.

Movie: Merchants of Doubt
The 2014 anti-propaganda documentary, Merchants of Doubt will be shown at the Bar Harbour Library. The film will be followed by a presentation by Dr. Coty Keller, ecologist, former naval captain, national security expert, and climate activist working with Citizens’ Climate Lobby, and an info session on how to get involved with efforts to pass important climate legislation. From 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Massapequa Garden Club
Volunteers for Wildlife will present a program on “Living With Wildlife on Long Island” at the meeting of the Massapequa Park Garden Club. The public is invited to attend the program, which will begin at 8:30 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of Massapequa Park Village Hall, 151 Front St., Massapequa Park. Admission is free. The club meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by refreshments. For more information, contact Mary Ann Elliott at 516-798-5861.

Art Workshop with Pat Stippel
This workshop is for all level of painters using water colors or porcelain painting. Bring your own painting supplies. Experienced painters in other mediums are welcome. Class size is limited so pre-registration is required. From 10 a.m. to noon in the Bar HaMassCal_072016Brbour meeting room.

Movie: Secret in their Eyes     
The Bar Harbour auditorium will show a 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. screening of the movie Secret in Their Eyes. A tight-knit team of investigators and their supervisor is torn apart when one investigator’s teenage daughter is brutally and inexplicably murdered. Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts (2015; PG-13, 2 hrs)

Board of Ed. Meeting
The Massapequa School District Board of Education will hold a special public meeting at 7 p.m. in the board room at the administration building. The board is expected to enter into executive session to discuss specific personnel.

Tuesday, July 26

Have you ever wanted to show your treasures off to other collectors? Come join the Pequa Pickers at Central Avenue and bring in a few of your favorite items and share their stories. From 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Central Avenue children’s room. Must register.
