The 33rd annual Runner’s Edge Long Island Women’s 5K Championship Run was held on the roads of Farmingdale on Saturday, July 9, and Levittown speedster Alexandra Barrett was prominent among the award winners.
Barrett, who competes for the Bellmore striders Racing Team, was the 21st finisher overall, and took third place honors in the highly competitive 25-29 age group. She crossed the finish line in 20 minutes, 3 seconds, a pace of 6:28 minutes per mile.
The title sponsor of the event was the Runner’s Edge, the Farmingdale based running and multisport specialty store that has been incredibly supportive of the running community over the past thirty years.
Congratulations and thanks to Race Director Debbie Blair for another outstanding job of putting all the pieces together as well as to Coordinator of Volunteers Mike Fernandez for making sure that everyone was where they needed to be when they needed to be there.
Thanks as well to Nassau County Legislator Rose Walker, New York State Senator Michael Venditto and New York State Assemblyman Joe Saladino for being on hand to support the event.
Finally, sincere and hearty thanks to the Farmingdale School District for most graciously allowing us to use their facilities, and of Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto and all the good people at Oyster Bay Town Hall for their ongoing support.
Proceeds from the Run will once again benefit The Opening Word, the Program hosted by the Dominican Sisters which teaches the English language and job readiness skills to undereducated and underemployed immigrant women.
