The Girl Scouts of Nassau County (GSNC) recently honored women for their lifelong achievements with the Girl Scouts during the annual Adult Recognitions Ceremony. GSNC honored Manhasset resident Regina Rule, who received the Continuing Service Award and has received the Appreciation Award within the last five years.
Among the awardees GSNC honored was Connie Fratianni-Wysota of the Manhasset Association. She received the County Spirit Award, which recognized how she exemplifies the true spirit of Girl Scouting by presenting a positive role model, creating awareness in the community and creating innovative programming for today’s Girl Scouts.
Wysota has served the Manhasset Association of Girl Scouts for 17 years, and during that time she has mentored two Troops from Daisies through their Gold Award and has the admiration from them all. Wyosta had mentored Girl Scout Troop 520. Ten of the 11 girls in Girl Scout Troop 520 of the Manhasset Association of Girl Scouts have earned their Gold Award. The 11th girl has completed her project and is waiting for final approval. Subject to receiving that approval, all of the girls in the troop will have earned their Gold Awards. Most of the girls have grown up in Girl Scouts, starting as Daisy Girl Scouts in kindergarten and finishing as Ambassador Girl Scouts in 12th grade. They are all graduating seniors in Manhasset High School heading to various colleges in the fall.
“I have had the honor of being their Girl Scout leader since Daisy Girl Scouts. Having watched them grow from inquisitive kindergarteners who were always proud to wear their blue Daisy uniform tunics, to Brownie Girl Scouts willing to try and explore anything, to Junior Girl Scouts just beginning to find themselves, to Cadet Girl Scouts who survived the middle school years when Girl Scouts began competing for their time, through high school where they grew into the confident young women they are today, I could not be more proud of them.” said Wysota
Additionally, Wysota has chaired innovative Association events, designed patch programs at the council level and was instrumental in enlisting DHL as a shipping partner for Council’s Operation Cookie, which donates cookies to the military.
The Girl Scout leader ceremony was held at the LIU-Post campus in Brookville, NY.
