The Amsterdam at Harborside held a Thank You Barbecue for Port Washington police, fire and emergency medical technicians as an expression of gratitude for their support. Director Sam Guedouar wants to make the barbecue an annual event and stated, “Port’s first responders have become like part of our family and this is the least we can do. It’s an opportunity for residents to share a meal together with them. It also gives them the chance to say thank you.”
Port’s first responders were greeted with applause as they arrived. The day meant so much to so many. The kindness of these men and women is key and it was evident throughout the afternoon. They talked with residents, enjoyed a meal together and stopped mid-meal to take pictures. Brooke Navarre said, “We are grateful to be working with such an amazing group who treat our residents with kindness and respect.” Rosemary Bader, an Independent Living resident, added, “I think this is a great way to say thank you to those who provide emergency service to Port Washington, including The Amsterdam.”

EMT Mike Farrone expressed their gratitude and summed it up perfectly, “It is so nice to see everyone in such a nice atmosphere.”
The Amsterdam is a senior community that first opened their doors in 2010 and became Nassau County’s first and only life care community.
