Families are invited to the Second Annual CreARTive at The Art Guild, on Saturday, Aug, 20, from 1 to 4 p.m. The open house at Nassau County’s Elderfields Preserve featuring free art-related activities such as tie-dyeing, simple printmaking, painting, clay hand-building and more, as a way for parents to meet instructors and familiarize themselves with The Art Guild. The projects will be geared for ages 5 through 12. This event is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a re-grant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor M. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and is administered by The Huntington Arts Council, Inc.
“Our art classes for kids are fun and educational,” said Susan
Herbst, associate executive director. “Our teachers are amazing professionals who come up with creative projects every week, all year long. We’d like to reach out to parents, schools and the community to let them know that we offer fun, reasonably priced art classes for students of all ages—from kindergarten through high school, as well as college and beyond.”
The fall schedule of classes for children and adults will be announced in August. Upcoming workshops for adults include The Untapped Power of Watercolor with Antonio Masi, Aug. 5 to 7; Plein Air Boot Camp with Paul Bachem, August 13 to 14; Alla Prima Painting with Christine Lafuente, Oct. 22 to 23; and Watercolor with Joyce Hicks, June 22 to 25, 2017. A call for artists has gone out for the next gallery exhibit, “Fur, Fins and Feathers: Art Inspired by the Animal Kingdom.” Deadline for submissions is Aug. 5. The show will be on view from Aug. 27 to Sept. 18, with an Artist’s Reception Sunday, Sept. 11, from 3 to 5 p.m.
