A 16-year-old Farmingdale boy was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking along Bethpage State Parkway over the weekend.
New York State police said John J. Ortiz was walking partially in the southbound lane of the roadway with 17-year-old Michael Rizzo of North Massapequa when Ortiz was hit by a Toyota just north of the Southern State Parkway at 11:27 p.m. Saturday.
Ortiz was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Rizzo was not injured.
The parkway was closed for several hours while investigators were on the scene.
State Police are continuing the investigation and ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call Troop L Headquarters at Farmingdale at 631-756-3300.
