Candlelight Service at Mary Jane Davies Green
September 11 is always a difficult day to face, no matter how many years have passed. It was 15 years ago, when the United States faced the attacks of the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and Philadelphia flight #93. September 11, 2001 was a beautiful sunny day with clear blue skies. This Sunday, the day started out overcast with tremendous wind gusts in the morning, about the time the first plane hit the tower. It was an eerie feeling until the clouds passed and the sun shone brightly a few minutes later and for the rest of the day.
Over the weekend, a number of memorial ceremonies took place honoring those lost; the Manhasset Fire Department held a 9/11 Memorial Ceremony at the Manhasset Park District Patriots Park on Shelter Rock Road and lined the area with flags and the Town of North Hempstead held a ceremony Sunday morning.
Sunday night’s Candlelight Vigil at Mary Jane Davies Green was the last. In spiritual solace, more than 150 residents gathered to pray and unite together as one family to find support and healing after this horrific event which changed so many lives.
