The sports headlines for the past several weeks have been dominated by the Olympics in Rio De Janiero. The United States has done very well in competition, particularly swimmer Michael Phelps, who set an Olympic record by racking up his 23rd individual gold medal over the span of four Olympics.

The athletes wore the most form-fitting, aerodynamic gear to help them get the most out of their performance. TYR Sport, a company based out of Farmingdale, has helped the athletes gain a competitive edge in the swimming and triathlon events.

“Since its inception three decades ago, TYR has grown to exist as one of the world’s most recognizable swimming and triathlon brands,” said Erika Amandola, a public relations associate at TYR Sport. “Our company is dedicated to building the industry’s most durable, uniquely designed swimwear, cutting-edge equipment and innovative goggles.”

TYR was founded in 1985 in Huntington Beach, CA, by current owner and swimwear mogul Joseph DiLorenzo and 1972 Olympic Bronze Medalist Steve Furniss, who went on to become captain of the 1976 swim squad.

The company is currently led by Chief Executive Officer Matt DiLorenzo, and though its headquarters are in Seal Beach, CA, its has marketing, design, operations, management, e-commerce and sales teams all working out of the Farmingdale office.

The name TYR is derived from Týr, the god of warriors in Norse mythology.

Some notable names that were wearing TYR Sport’s gear in this summer’s games include swimmers Dana Vollmer, Cody Miller, Jimmy Feigen and Kelsi Worrell. The company is the official uniform supplier of USA Triathlon and major name triathletes associated with the brand include Sarah True and Ben Kanute.

“We wanted vibrant colors and performance-driven prints for our swimmers and triathletes. That is the whole essence of TYR Sport,” said Amandola.

The company offers an array of fitness suits and competitive sportswear for men, women and kids. It also has a variety of performance goggles and sporting equipment accessories such as swim caps, snorkels, arm sleeves, nose plugs, and footwear and headwear.
