The Floral Park Knights continued their winning ways last Saturday with a nail-biting 10-7 away win against Lynbrook. In winning their first two games, Floral Park relied on a high-powered offense. In the win over Lynbrook, the Floral Park defense came through with no less than four fourth-down stops to stymie their opponents. The final goal line stop came late in the quarter when Cole Horan’s tackle at the two-yard line sealed the win. Horan was the star all day for the Knights, scoring 13 tackles. He was assisted by Michael Meegan who had eight stops.
Floral Park got on the boards in the second quarter on a 60-yard touchdown strike from Kyle Hillarie to Michael Mattich. A Harry Fingleton field goal gave Floral Park a 10-0 lead and the defense held the line from there. In a 35-13 win over Valley Stream North, Floral Park was paced by Kyle Hilaire, who threw for 99 yards and connected twice with Michael Incantalupo for touchdowns. But on Saturday, it was the defense’s turn to shine.
Herricks High School got on the winning side last Saturday with a convincing 40-13 win over Great Neck North. Mike Saleme starred on offense and defense, catching a 54-yard touchdown pass from Mike Lee and returning an interception 100 yards for another score. Mike Chase, Anthony Esposito and Brian Ginter also had rushing touchdowns, while Chase had eight tackles on the defensive side of the ball.
