Floral Park Memorial High School’s Ecology Club recently held its annual beach cleanup event.
The students joined thousands of people from around the world taking part in the Ocean Conservancy’s 31st annual Coastal Cleanup. Thirty-two students, along with teachers Karen Caporale, Jed Cersosim, Louis Dura, Rosanne Mamo and Jennifer Rico, attended. The cleanup took place at Zach’s Bay, Jones Beach, and within three hours the students collected 417 pounds of trash, almost 60 percent of it being construction materials found on the beach.
