“Parents, grandparents and children are invited to a Family Day of Thanks and Giving sponsored by the Interfaith Nutrition Network (The INN) to benefit hungry and homeless Long Islanders on Sunday, Nov. 6,” announced Dave Golbert, cochairman of the event that will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. at The INN’s soup kitchen at 100 Madison Ave. in Hempstead.
“Parents have asked me for years, ‘Can I bring my kids to the soup kitchen so they can see what a soup kitchen is and how it helps local families?’ Most parents have a desire to instill in their children a sense of nurturing, empathy and caring for others,” said Golbert. “Most children and young adults want to find a cause where volunteering their time and talents will make a difference.”
At the family day, there will be activities for children and adults to benefit those challenged by hunger and homelessness, as well as a tour of the facility and a Thanksgiving-style lunch provided by Ben’s.
To register for this special event or for more information, contact Golbert at davegolbert@yahoo.com or 917-418-2451. Space is limited and families will be registered to participate on a first-come, first-served basis. The cost to attend is $50 for adults, $25 for students and $135 for families of four or more.
