Garden City detectives along with Third Squad detectives report an arrest for multiple burglaries that occurred in Garden City and Hempstead.
According to detectives, on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2:30 p.m., Garden City police officers responded to an alarm on St. James Street S., after being advised by a witness that a male subject was on the roof of a residence and then fled the scene. Police officers located the defendant, 18-year-old Dimas Yanez, (no known address), in the area a short time later. He is being charged with attempted second-degree burglary. Subsequent investigation by detectives revealed the defendant was responsible for the following additional residential burglaries.
• Thursday, Sept. 9—Third Street, Garden City—second degree burglary
• Saturday, Sept. 9/Oct. 16—St. James Street S., Garden City—second-degree burglary
• Saturday, Sept. 9/Oct. 16—Cathedral Ave., Hempstead—attempted second-degree burglary
• Saturday, Oct. 8/16—Third Street, Garden City—attempted second-degree burglary
• Saturday, Oct. 8/16—Third Street, Garden City—attempted second-degree burglary
Proceeds from the burglaries are undetermined at this time. Yanez was arraigned on Monday, Oct. 10 in First District Court, Hempstead.
