Winners of the Nassau County High School Student Juried Art Competition and Exhibition gathered for an Artists’ Reception & Awards Ceremony at The Art Guild at Elderfields Preserve on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Of the 35 artists selected, two were Great Neck North High School seniors. Malka Lohmann had a colorful 20-by-26-inch mixed-media self-portrait on cardboard called “Good Hair Day.” Catherine Kim’s 22-by-16-inch “Quaint Cottage” was created using graphite and colored pencils.
The exhibit of more than 50 works of art will remain on display through Nov. 27. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. or by appointment.
The Art Guild of Port Washington, Inc., which is a nonprofit that provides encouragement, education and a forum for the appreciation of the visual arts, is located at 200 Port Washington Blvd. in Manhasset. The organization strives to offer residents from local and neighboring communities an avenue to broaden their creative pursuits.
The Art Guild will be holding its Art Lover’s Fling, with art, an auction and dancing, on Friday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. at the Village Club of Sands Point, located at 1 Thayer Lane. Donations to this event will help benefit educational programs, its High School Scholarship Fund and the care of its home on the historic preserve.
The evening will honor founders Eileen Neville, Terri Shkuda, Joan Muller, Gail Thrope and Carol Schepp, as well as award-winning artist and American Watercolor Society President Antonio Masi.
