Hossein Zamani, 77, of Great Neck fled the scene of the accident after striking a male pedestrian with his van on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 4:43 p.m.
According to Nassau County Police Homicide Squad detectives, Zamani was heading north in a 2005 Honda Odyssey van when he hit the victim crossing the street at Community Drive/Pond Hill Road in Manhasset, and then left the scene of the accident. When he returned approximately one hour later, he was placed under arrest.
The 68-year-old victim, who sustained internal injuries, was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in serious condition.
Zamani is being charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Physical Injury and will be arraigned today, Thursday, Dec. 1, in First District Court, Hempstead.
