Come out and vote on Tuesday, December 13
Special District elections will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 12 to 9 p.m. at the Company One Firehouse on Bayview Avenue. Only registered voters are eligible to vote.
Manhasset-Lakeville Water/Fire District
Steven Flynn, a 27-year volunteer fireman and Manhasset native, is running against the incumbent Donald O’Brien in the race for water/fire commissioner.
Flynn, is a lifelong resident of Manhasset. He has spent 18 years working with a water distribution system and says that has given him extensive knowledge on the way water systems operate. For the past 16 years, he has been a New York State certified water operator. Flynn has spent the past 27 years as a volunteer firefighter. He says that he holds extensive knowledge regarding the the Manhasset communities needs for the best fire/EMS services. He has served as a second lieutenant, first lieutenant and a captain. He says that he is running for commissioner because “I am from Manhasset, volunteer for Manhasset and will continue to serve the Manhasset-Lakeville Water and Fire district with utmost respect for our community with the pride and tradition that my family has instilled in me. This is an election where the voters have two viable candidates. I feel that I am the right candidate in this election for commissioner because I bring the right blend of fire and water background coupled with the love I have for this town as a 46-year resident.Along with the two other members of the board, I believe together we can work in the best interest of our district.”
O’Brien, two-time incumbent, spearheaded the building of the controversial new water tower that has now been built. Both towers currently stand side by side.
O’Brien has spent 34 years in real estate finance. He serves as a trustee on the Manhasset Library’s board and is active in the American Legion Post 304. O’Brien is running “for reelection to ensure that the board continues to have an experienced member with a formal education and background in finance. I ran six years ago because there was no board member with this background and I have made a difference in the financing of capital projects, the management of the two separate districts and the annual budgets which are under the tax cap. I have implemented a restructuring of the financial position of the two districts. As a result, we have not taken out any new bonds since I was elected and have decreased the outstanding bond debt by $10.6 million, or 50 percent. We have eliminated new bond financing to reduce project costs and to save taxpayer dollars. Annual capital infrastructure improvements are now funded through the annual budgets, as is the purchase of all fire apparatus, including firetrucks, for the fire department.”
Manhasset Park District Election
Munsey Park resident Mark Sauvigne seeking reelection for the seat as commissioner on the Manhasset Park District. He is running unopposed. He is also a commissioner of the Manhasset Lakeville Fire and Water Department.
