Great Neck North High School students Daniela Vazquez and Carly Campbell will host a fundraiser, Laps for Ray, sponsored by Coaches vs. Cancer, on Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Great Neck North Middle School pool, which will be open for swimming.
The event will honor Ray Plakstis, a local merchant, fireman and parent of former Great Neck North students Ryan and Tyler Plakstis. As the result of being a 9/11 first responder, Ray is currently battling stage IV stomach cancer. The funds raised will go toward research to help find a cure for stomach cancer. The event will include team swim, open swim, relays and pool games, as well as an outdoor barbecue with music.
