Looking Ahead With Community Ed

Great Neck Public Schools Community Education is gearing up for the Winter Session that begins on Jan. 7—an registration is underway for all classes, trips and special events.

Upcoming excursions, with round-trip coach bus transportation, include The Philadelphia Flower Show, with this year’s theme, Holland!, on Saturday, March 11; a theater outing to the well-received, new Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen on Thursday, April 27; a unique walking tour and dinner in the East Village on Wednesday, May 3; and a private tour of NYC’s iconic Woolworth Building and lunch on Sunday, May 7.

Three special events will include Chinois & Champagne, a unique afternoon featuring an elaborate Chinese meal paired with sparkling wines on Sunday, Dec.18, at Pearl East Restaurant. Next, That’s Amore!—A Canasta Event will be held at Il Bacco on Wednesday, Feb. 15, which will include four hours of card play along with a delicious Italian-themed lunch. At the third event, The Art & Beauty of Egg Decoration on Saturday, March 25, participants will learn the unique and delicate art of egg embellishment and go home with finished products to keep or give to family and friends.

At the Cumberland building, attendees will enjoy adult courses such as Cardio Combo, Chinese for Travelers, Composers and Lyricists, Cumberland Singers, Everyday English Conversation, Founding Fathers, Gilbert and Sullivan, Italy: City-by-City, Jazz Dance, Joy of Reading Book Group, Monthly Current Events, Public Speaking and Writers’ Workshop.

A large variety of courses are offered in fine arts and fine crafts, fitness and dance, foreign languages, humanities, music, performing arts and personal growth.

For children, after-school classes are offered in Chinese, creative writing and young speakers. ACT/SAT preparation, driver education, figure drawing and pottery on the wheel are available for high school students.
