Person Killed in Abandoned Brentwood House Fire

A person was killed in an abandoned house fire in Brentwood early Tuesday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Firefighters and police officers responded after a 911 caller reported a house fire at a vacant home at the corner of 8th Street and Second Avenue at 3:51 a.m., police said. A person was later found dead in the home, authorities said. 

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office, which will determine the victim’s identity. There was no one else in the house. 

Brentwood, Deer Park, Bay Shore, East Islip, Islip and Commack fire department firefighters responded to extinguish the flames.

Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are continuing the investigation into the cause of the blaze.
