Copiague Crash Leaves Man Dead, Driver Arrested for Suspended License

A man was arrested for driving with multiple license suspensions after he fatally struck a 38-year-old pedestrian in the victim’s hometown of Copiague on Thursday night, Suffolk County police said.

Richard Turner, 36, of Massapequa, was driving a Lexus RX 300 eastbound on Sunrise Highway when he hit Fausto Rodriguez near the corner of Bayview Avenue at 6:30 p.m., police said.

The victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators discovered that Turner had 30 license suspensions. He was charged with first-degree unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony. He will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.

First Squad detectives are continuing the investigation.
