For more than 25 years, MRG Marketing Corp., specializing in promotional products, has been making house calls.
“So clients can save time and money and stay focused on their own businesses,” said owner Sherri Gillespie. MRG offers all types of printing, products and custom gift baskets to a range of clients in the tristate area. Although pens are the best-selling product, the company’s tag line “You think it, we ink it,” communicates their limitless capability.
Founded in 1991 by Gillespie’s mother, Marilyn Glassberg, in Freeport, Gillespie took over the reins when her mom moved south in 1997. When one of their clients also headed to a warmer climate about three years ago, he remained loyal, especially after Gillespie came up with a clever idea for his auto repair shop: fly swatters.
“He was thrilled with his order and our services,” Gillespie happily reports. The company did a direct mailing for him in November 2016 with “awesome results.” He has since referred MRG to four of his customers, according to Gillespie.
In addition to valuable word of mouth referrals, Gilespie points to business networking events as MRG’s most important marketing resource.
“I love to network for my own business and to refer others whenever possible,” she said. “I send out a weekly email to let people know which networking events I’ll be attending.”
She feels the face-to-face communication is more helpful in furthering her business than social media right now. As a new member, Gillespie is looking forward to mingling at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce’s various events and becoming involved in a committee or two.
Gillespie is mother to two sons and a grandmother of two as well. She enjoys working out at New York Sports Club and is mindful of healthy eating.
