Long Island could get buried in 12 to 18 inches of snow Monday evening throughout Tuesday, according to forecasters.
The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a Blizzard Watch for Long Island, New York City, and other parts of the region in effect from late Monday night through Tuesday evening.
The forecast predicts heavy snow, strong, gusty winds and temperatures in the 20s.
Snow accumulations could amount to 12 to 18 inches, according to the agency, with wind gusts clocking in at 40 to 50 mph.
The National Weather Service warns of “hazardous travel and potential for power outages,” as well as low visibility.
“A Blizzard Watch means there is a potential for falling and/or blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities,” it states. “This can lead to whiteout conditions and make travel very dangerous.”
