The Great Neck Alert Fire Company participated in the 13th annual Town of North Hempstead Polar Plunge at Hempstead Harbor Park on Saturday, March 4.

Since the event began 13 years ago, the Great Neck Alert Fire Company has come out to support the Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge and the Port Washington Fire Department every year. Alert Chief James Neubert and Ex-Chief Raymond Plakstis, Jr., along with senior and junior members of the Alert Fire Company’s ice- and cold-water rescue, were on hand to support the event and provide emergency services for the swimmers, if needed.

The Great Neck Alert Fire Company has been an ardent supporter of Great Neck resident Erin Lipinsky, who was the top fundraiser at last year’s Polar Plunge. For this year’s plunge, Lipinsky raised nearly $12,000 and was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Special Olympics for once again being the top individual fundraiser. The Polar Plunge is held to help raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics New York. Lipinsky is a longtime member of the Great Neck Spirits Basketball Team for Special Olympics.
