Long time Syosset resident Bert Jablon has been a fixture on the Long Island running scene for decades. His pace has slowed a bit in recent years, but his enthusiasm hasn’t flagged at all, and the trademark Bert Jablon smile remained as wide as ever as he reached his 90th birthday.
The Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC) helped celebrate Jablon’s 90th birthday with a special birthday bash and one-mile fun run at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park. More than 100 friends and well-wishers were on hand for the occasion.
The GLIRC is thankful for those who made the event a success. Kate Shreck and Christine Martin organizined the great selection of food and drinks, Glen Wolther of All Round Foods donated the birthday cake and other delicious pastries, and Jack Hanley and Gabe Hickey donated the hero sandwiches. Refreshment volunteers Myron Bellovin, Sherry Bellovin, Kathy DiVeglio, Jonathan Ehrlich, Joan Hershkowitz, Marge Smith, Susie Brenner, and Arlene Sheflin, and “Lead Trike” Peter Martin were especially helpful during the celebration.
