In an effort to protect our pets and prevent the spread of rabies, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, the Nassau County Department of Health and the Town of North Hempstead are partnering to offer free rabies vaccinations for dogs, cats and ferrets. Open to all Nassau County residents, the vaccination clinic will be held on Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter located at 75 Marino Avenue in Port Washington.
“This continued partnership provides an excellent opportunity for residents to protect their pets as well as their families against rabies,” said County Executive Mangano. “I urge all Nassau County pet-owners to take advantage of this free vaccination clinic, and I thank the Town of North Hempstead for partnering with Nassau County.”
“Rabies vaccination for dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets is required by New York State law,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Lawrence Eisenstein. “Having an up-to-date rabies vaccination eliminates the need for pets to be euthanized or strictly quarantined for six months in the event your pet comes in contact with animals that are known to carry and transmit the virus. To protect your family and your pet, it is absolutely essential that your animals have up-to-date rabies inoculations.”
In order to visit this free clinic, all dogs are required to be on leashes and cats and ferrets must be in enclosed carriers.
