Long Island Youth Orchestra To Hold Auditions For 2017-18 Season

16 LIYOLong Island Youth Orchestra’s Music Director Scott Dunn announced today the audition schedule for the 2017-2018 Season. Auditions will be held on May 21 and June 17, 2017, at the Fine Arts Center at LIU Post. For those students who may not be available on these may arrange for a special appointment. To schedule an audition, students should email LongIslandYouthOrchestra@gmail.com.

Students interested in audition should prepare at least one solo piece (NYSSMA Level 5/6 or equivalent). Contrasting single movements from more than one solo piece and/or orchestral excerpts are encouraged (to demonstrate a player’s varying abilities), but not mandatory. Sight reading will be given at the audition.

The Long Island Youth Orchestra is in residence at LIU Post. The orchestra meets nearly every Sunday morning of the school year, including Columbus weekend, Martin Luther King weekend, the final Sunday of school vacation weeks, and Memorial weekend. LIYO does not meet major holiday weekends like Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Presidents’ Day Weekend, and Easter. Students interested in auditioning should take this into account.

The Long Island Youth Orchestra, was founded in 1962 by Martin Dreiwitz and has nearly 100 outstanding talented teenage players representing nearly 40 Long Island communities from Nassau and Suffolk counties. The Long Island Youth Orchestra, which is in residence at LIU Post, rehearses weekly to present a series of four concerts each season. Throughout its history, LIYO has had more than 40 summer tours to all parts of the world.
