Two men were convicted Wednesday of throwing a brick and a cinder block off a bridge onto the Meadowbrook State Parkway in Uniondale, hitting two vehicles and injuring a woman.
A Nassau County jury found 19-year-old Andrew Denton of East Meadow and 20-year-old Jacob Palant of Syosset guilty of assault, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
“These defendants played Russian roulette with innocent peoples’ lives and used them as moving targets,” Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said.
Prosecutors said the duo threw the brick and the block from the overpass at Kellenberg High School, hitting a Jeep and a BMW at 8 p.m. Dec. 26, 2015.
A 22-year-old woman who was a passenger in the BMW suffered permanent damage to her left eye, a scar on her cornea and blurry vision as a result, authorities said. The driver also suffered lacerations.
New York State police arrested two men last year following an investigation.
A judge set their bail at $1 million bond or $500,000 cash. Palant is due back for sentencing on June 28, while Denton is due back for sentencing on June 29. They face up to 25 years in prison.
