High school seniors dance the night away at 2017 prom
The final days of the school year marks a special time for all students, but for some high school seniors, there is no year-end event more anticipated than prom. This year’s Mineola High School prom, held on Thursday, June 8, at the North Ritz Club of Syosset, was widely attended by both students and faculty alike, who were eager to take photos, dance and sing all night long.
Pre-prom photo-ops took place at several homes throughout the neighborhood, where students certainly dressed to impress, embodying the latest trends in formal fashion. Shades of red and pink as well as neutral tones dominated gown choices this year, and dates followed suit with matching ensembles. Many girls stuck to a classic floor-length hemline, some accentuated by high slits or midriff cut-out styles. The boys, for the most part, sported tuxedos of varying colors such as light gray, charcoal, white, red, blue and the traditional black.
Upon reaching the venue, attendees were met with a nautical-themed event, representing their “bon voyage” moment as they prepare to move on from the high school. At the entrance was a sign that read, “Life has a way of testing our anchors and tempting us to drift. Nevertheless, if our anchors are correctly placed, they will hold no matter the force of the wind, the strength of the tide or the height of the waves. Happy prom 2017!”
In keeping with the theme, each table was adorned with sea-oriented centerpieces, complete with miniature lighthouses, netting, seashells and sand. Each attendee received a commemorative cup with the image of an anchor.
Current popular tunes set the mood for the lively dance floor, where students showed off their best moves. The festivities continued until approximately 12 a.m., when students returned to their respective busses, limos and cars. An exciting night was had by all, leaving Mineola High School’s seniors, teachers and administrators with valuable memories.
