On a blazing hot day, what could be better than kicking back and enjoying a great flick in the cool air conditioning? To help you decide which to pop in, here are 13 summer movies filmed on Long Island.

Married to The Mob13. Married to The Mob Released: Aug. 19, 1988. Earned: $21,486,757
Long Island native Alec Baldwin plays a mafia up-and-comer and leaves his wife, played by Michelle Pfieffer, chained to the mob scene, no matter how hard she tries to escape it. Bay Shore, Cedarhurst, East Meadow, Massapequa, and Valley Stream were all locations for filming. Totally fictional, of course, because there’s no mafia presence in those towns, right?

Suffolk County residents may see a glimmer of happiness in this dark comedy starring Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin and Sally Hawkins. This quirky Woody Allen movie has scenes that were filmed in Quogue.

11. A Perfect Murder Released: June 5, 1998. Earned: $67,629,105
This modern remake of Hitchcock’s Dial M for Murder stars Michael Douglas, Gwyneth Paltrow and Viggo Mortensen. A husband attempts to plan the perfect murder of his wife, and it ends up as anything less than perfect. Don’t be fooled by the oxymoron of the title and plot, this movie is sure to entertain. And the Long Island location gives even more of a reason to watch this film. The Bradford mansion scenes were filmed at the Salutation House in Glen Cove.

trading places10. Trading Places Released: June 8, 1983. Earned: $90,400,000
A modern day Prince and the Pauper, Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd don’t fail to make the audience laugh as they are unknowingly part of a bet in which their lives cross paths with one another. Mill Neck Manor was a location for this film.

The Fab Four from the HBO series headed to Long Island to film parts of their film sequel. The Salutation House in Glen Cove was used as a location. Because where better than Long Island to depict an adventurous life of glamour, fashion, and love?

Arthur8. Arthur Released: July 17, 1981. Earned: $95,461,682
This Oscar-winning comedy was the first and only film directed by Steven Gordon. It follows the story of Arthur Bach, a drunken millionaire who falls for a working class girl. Caumsett, Old Westbury, Manhasset and Glen Cove make appearances in this film.

Long Island gets involved in the darker side of film. This horror movie starring Nicole Kidman is mostly filmed outside of the United States. One of the only US locations used is Oheka Castle in Huntington. Not that anything spooky ever happens there in real life.

Crocodile Dundee 26. Crocodile Dundee 2 Released: May 25, 1988. Earned: $109,306,210
Long Island meets the Outback (and not the chain restaurant) in this sequel where Mick Dundee is pitted against a Colombian drug cartel. Centerport makes an appearance in this comedy.

Long Island might as well have been listed as a lead role, right after Angelina Jolie’s name. This action thriller about a woman who was accused of being a Russian sleeper agent was filmed in Oyster Bay, Caumsett State Park, Bethpage, Hicksville, Merrick and East Farmingdale.

The third installment of this Marvel comic adaptation stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin. Sonnenfeld and Spielberg direct this film, which involves time travel, prison escapes, an attempt to take over the world, and aliens. Robert Moses State Park was used as a location for this film. Unfortunately, no real aliens were found or used in the making of this film.

The third installment of the Batman film series, produced by Tim Burton, was shot at the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture for Bruce Wayne’s home. Students there must have gone crazy each time the Wayne Manor was shown on screen.

Looks like the men in black are fans of the island. This sequel was filmed at the Fire Island Lighthouse, an iconic location for beach lovers on the South Shore.

This movie based on the Marvel comics stars superheros such as Thor, Captain America, and the Hulk, had scenes filmed at Grumman Studios in Bethpage. Can you imagine eating at the Applebee’s across the street and seeing Iron Man walk in to get some lunch in between shoots?
