Anton Media Group’s July 2017 Summertime! cover features the work of Marsha Tarlow, owner of The Roslyn Village Gallery, a unique studio and art gallery in the heart of the historic village of Roslyn. Tarlow has created more than just an art gallery, as it is also a creative space where she and fellow artists paint and teach students in an encouraging and inviting atmosphere.
“There is a special energy here as my colleagues and I critique and learn from one another,” said Tarlow. “We teach novice and experienced students alike the classical methods of oil painting. Our teachers have extensive practical experience and have studied at fine art schools such as the New York Academy of Art and the Art Students League of New York.”
Tarlow believes that by having artists, including herself, painting in her gallery, it became more approachable.
“Art galleries can be intimidating, but with artists painting and their works in progress displayed, it is more casual and welcoming,” Tarlow said. “There’s so much talent right here on Long Island.”
She opened the gallery to exhibit and sell art from local artists.
“Being an artist is not only about what happens in your studio,” Tarlow said. “It involves the way you live, the people in your life and how you spend your time, all of which becomes the raw material for the art you create. While it may come easier to some more than others, it’s mostly about hard work and dedication. You may be born with talent, but it likely will never flourish without many hours of hard work and effort.”
Tarlow was born in New York City and her art education came from taking courses at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and Hofstra University. Although, she claims that she’s mostly self-taught.
The Roslyn Village Gallery is located at 1374 Old Northern Blvd. in Roslyn. Call 516-721-7807 for more information.
