The state’s Board of Elections voted Wednesday to provide some voter data — names, birthdates, addresses and voting history — to President Trump’s commission investigating voter fraud, despite vows from Gov. Andrew Cuomo not to comply.
The board said the commission’s request for the data was legitimate under the state’s open records laws and “We had no lawful reason to deny it.” The state will not give the commission all the data requested, which included private information such as voters’ social security numbers.
In a statement after the board’s announcement, Cuomo said the state’s position “remains unchanged and we will continue to deny requests for sensitive personal data about New York residents, which is protected under the law. We will never provide private voter information to anyone, especially a politically-motivated organization seeking to perpetuate the myth of voter fraud.”
