Hair We Share Celebrates Second Annual Event At Oheka Castle

pinktie love life fundraiser

Hair We Share will be celebrating under the big top on Oct. 12, from 7-11 p.m. This circus themed evening will be “The Greatest FUNdraiser on Earth.” The event is supported by PinkTie.org.

Hair We Share’s mission is to help maintain dignity, confidence and self-esteem to those affected by medical hair loss. Custom wigs are created from donated hair and provided free of charge. It takes between one and nine ponytails to create one wig. The donated ponytails are sewn hair by hair and cost $125 to process each one. Ponytail sponsorship is as important as the hair itself.

This 2nd annual event will be an unforgettable evening at Oheka Castle filled with circus antics, raffle prizes, award winning cuisine and open bar. Being honored are two therapy dogs and their handlers. Eileen Hattersley and Princess Madison Gold of Labradoodles of Long Island as well as Darren and Giacomo Restivo of Biagio Cru.

“Most of our recipients are children with alopecia. They often have been bullied in school and are emotionally fragile, and as they watch their campaign for hair donations grow, their faith in humanity becomes restored,” Chimera said. “It’s difficult to put into words the feeling the recipient has after a whole community of people come together to make them feel beautiful. Their self-confidence skyrockets—they no longer need to hide from the world.”

Cofounder Dean Riskin added,” We are working to build an inventory of customizable wigs, so that we can service chemotherapy patients more quickly, it can take us up to 12 weeks to make a wig, having the inventory on hand we can customize and deliver them within a day or two.”

Hair We Share’s goal is to assist as many of these children as possible in changing their lives by improving their outlook and empowering them with a degree of self confidence that will allow them to face the world with renewed self esteem.
