Town Hosts Anti-Hate Photo Contest

39186

The Town of North Hempstead will be sponsoring a photo contest using the anti-hate initiative Not In Our Town (NIOT) as a theme. NIOT addresses issues of hate and bullying, with the goal of building safe, inclusive communities for all.

“The Not In Our Town initiative speaks right to the heart of how we feel here in North Hempstead about fighting hate and intolerance, however in order to really effect change we need to get our young people involved,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “We are hoping that our North Hempstead students will be excited about expressing their views on this important issue, as they use photography to illustrate how they stand up to hate in their communities and schools.”

Students are invited to take a photo showing how you stand up to hate in your community or school. For example, a school club focusing on diversity, actions you have taken to put an end to hate and any community and unity events that you have attended.

The photo must be taken in North Hempstead and is open to any Town of North Hempstead resident currently enrolled in elementary, middle or high school and must be taken by that student. Digital photos should be 200 dpi resolutions. If you are entering a printed photo, it must be at least 8×10 inches. All entries must be received by Dec. 31. Include your name, the name of your school and the contact information for a parent or guardian.

The categories are: 1st−6th grade; 7th−9th grade; and 10th−12th grade. Digital photo entries should be sent to photos@northhempsteadny.gov. Mail printed photos to: Town of North Hempstead Not In Our Town Youth Photo Contest, 200 Plandome Road, Manhasset, NY 11003.

Winners will be announced Jan. 15, 2018. An awards ceremony recognizing the winners and all who entered will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018.
