Former intelligence officer to speak at NCC Nov. 29
The Nassau Community College cultural program “The Threat From North Korea and What to Do About It” will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. in room 252-253 of the College Center Building. The program will be presented by Dr. Sue Mi Terry, a senior research scholar at the Columbia University Weatherhead East Asian Institute.
Her research focuses on East Asia, particularly Northeast Asia security and U.S.-Northeast Asia relations; North Korea’s evolving nuclear strategy and potential for instability; and the politics and foreign policy of South Korea. She is also the founder of Peninsula Strategies Inc., an advisory firm specializing in Korean issues with both government and corporate clients.
Before coming to New York, Terry served as a career intelligence officer. Among her positions have been deputy national intelligence officer for East Asia at the National Intelligence Council; director for Korea, Japan and Oceanic Affairs at the National Security Council; and senior analyst on Korean issues at the Directorate of Intelligence at the Central Intelligence Agency.
Terry holds a PhD in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. A native of South Korea, she moved to the United States at age 12. Terry spent a year studying abroad at Yonsei University in Seoul.
