The Hicksville School District community passed the bond referendum on Nov. 14, supporting two propositions which will allow the district to make major upgrades and renovations to facilities at no additional tax impact to taxpayers.

Proposition One, which passed 822 to 256, will bond approximately $26.8 million in order to perform necessary facilities and educational upgrades for the students and community. Those improvements include roof replacements at several schools; upgrades to the high school auditorium and music suite (new seating, house and stage lighting, sound system, additional storage space, air conditioning); reconfiguration of the high school cafeteria to allow for one open space, additional seating and new food prep areas in the kitchen; improvements to the high school main office; the creation of media centers at the elementary school libraries; renovation and repurposing of the high school tech space to create a suite of rooms; reconfiguration of the middle school main entrance to create a security vestibule and greeters station; middle school nurse’s office upgrades; and districtwide upgrades to the incoming electrical services and HVAC systems.

Proposition Two, which passed 700 to 375, authorizes the district to bond approximately $14.7 million to construct an Aquatic Center, featuring an indoor, competition six-lane 25-meter swimming pool and related additions, including a lobby, lavatory, locker facilities, paved parking lot and machinery.
