As Thanksgiving approaches we have a lot to be thankful for!
Farmingdale village is thriving with new residents, new merchants and activity throughout the village. Hardscrabble Theater at St. Thomas Episcopal Church brought live theater downtown again with recent performances of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None in mid-November.
On Main Street, That Meetball Place announced a “Secret Room” for parties and fun. Nick and John DeVito, brothers and owners of Charlotte’s Desserts are launching a speakeasy at their location, 294 Main St. The brothers learned that a portion of the basement of Charlotte’s was a speakeasy during prohibition and the speakeasy opens Nov. 24. The building dates back to 1907 when it was originally a department store/ ladies dress shop.
Welcome new merchants: T.O.A.—adjacent to the Long Island Railroad Station at Jefferson Plaza; Smoke Hub—Palmer’s Shopping Center; and SCRUBZ—opening below the brand new The Lofts on Main Street.
Coming soon—our neighborhood deli, while construction is underway for Harley’s American Grille and Goldfish Swim School.
New apartment complexes throughout town include Robinelle Gardens on Conklin Street and The Lofts on Main Street; and The Hearthstone is under construction.
At 333 Main St., Staller Associates has proposed a mixed-use building including apartments and retail, there is a public hearing set on Monday, Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. at Village Hall.
The holiday lights, wreaths and beautiful plantings adorn the streets and make the town festive, we hope you enjoy the spirit of the season! The village is collecting unwrapped toys for Marines at Village Hall, please considering donating.
As a reminder, consider shopping and dining locally: Saturday, Nov. 25 is Small Business Saturday, come check out what’s new in town. The annual Tree Lighting is Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m., enjoy holiday music and see the new Norway spruce tree adorned in LED lights (rain date Dec. 1). The Gerngras Park Tree Lighting is Friday Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.(located at Staples Street and Hallock Street). The fifth annual Gingerbread and Chocolate House Competition will be held at the Chocolate Duck store (310 Main St.) on Saturday, Dec. 9 from noon to 4 p.m. Stop by and check out the magnificent entries, or sign up to enter in the contest by calling the Chocolate Duck, or visit the village website for the forms, great prizes and fun for everyone. Plus, Long Island Cares will be at the competition collecting donations to help feed Long Island’s hungry.
