The Season Of Giving

Current and past presidents of Flower Hill Women’s Club

Greeted by two nutcrackers, the Flower Hill Women’s Club celebrated their 69th annual Christmas Luncheon on Nov. 30. This traditional holiday event was held at the Port Washington Yacht Club and is one of the season’s favorite parties due to the exceptional leadership of president Deanna D’Urso, Karen Barnes, Margie Suga, Nancy Paganucci and Diane Turner. The Flower Hill Women’s Club is a philanthropic organization supporting children’s charities.

A holiday favorite, the luncheon was a sell out, and ladies young and old enjoyed shopping for the holidays and a dazzling display of beautifully wrapped raffle prizes.

The enchanting centerpieces of a seasonal lantern with glowing candle gave the table a Victorian setting similar to a Thomas Kincaid painting. The recipient of the beautiful centerpiece was the lucky guest who had a dot under their bread dish.

Maureen Smith read the prayer, giving women insight into why it is so important to take time for friends and family and not lose sight of the wonder of the season.

The powerful prayer made guests pause and applaud, as the honesty of the words were taken to heart. The Women’s Club of Flower Hill is one of the only clubs which has consistently maintained this glorious tradition even during trying economic times.

Whether neighbor, family or friend, the ladies enjoyed the vendors who had international flavors, food, jewelry, scents, fashion and just about anything you would want to give or receive as a present.

Next year will mark the 70th anniversary of the fabled luncheon, adding another layer to the celebration.
