Locust Valley High school senior William Moran received the Richard Daoust Scholar-Athlete Memorial Award from the Nassau County Soccer Coaches Association for his outstanding citizenship as a student-athlete. The award comes with a $1,000 scholarship.

The award is given to a high school senior who has played at least two years of varsity soccer, has earned a grade point average of 90 or better and has exhibited exemplary citizenship. Candidates must participate in community service and submit a 250-word essay defining their leadership role as a student-athlete and in the community.

For several years, Moran has spearheaded local efforts with his sister Emily to collect used soccer equipment for the charity Kick It to Cameroon, which distributes the items to children in Africa. He is captain of the varsity soccer team and has led his team in successful collections to help the organization. Moran is also a member of Foreign Language Honor Society, National Honor Society and Tri-M Honor Society, and will earn an Advanced Regents diploma.

Varsity soccer coach Joseph Lee said Moran is very deserving of this honor.

“Will exemplifies the intelligence, work ethic, discipline and love of the game we hope for in all our student-athletes,” he said.
