The Nassau County Third Precinct Police arrested three individuals for grand larceny, that occurred on Friday, Jan. 12, at 4 p.m. in North New Hyde Park.
According to detectives, officers responded to Sears (1400 Union Tpke.) for a larceny that occurred. Defendants Christine Fernando, 28, of Queens; Bryan Sumira, 38, of Queens Village and Tenzin Salen, 28, of Bay Shore approached the cashier and tried to purchase several men’s wallets, gift cards and assorted jewelry worth more than $4,000 with a Sears store credit card.
Police said Fernando allegedly told the cashier that she did not physically have the credit card, but that she was an authorized signer and knew the social security number, date of birth and home address of the owner of the card.
Police said the store manager became suspicious and called the actual owner (a 61-year-old male victim) at his home. The victim alleged he did not authorize anyone to use his credit card.
Police arrived and placed Fernando and Sumira under arrest at the scene. Salen exited the store prior to police arrival, but was later apprehended outside on the eastside of the store and was placed under arrest without incident.
Subsequent to the arrests, police said Fernando was found to have an amount of what appeared to be crystal meth and written on a sheet of paper six names, including the above victim, with matching social security numbers. Police said Sumira was found to have a switchblade knife in his possession.
Fernando is being charged with third-degree grand larceny, second-degree possession of a forged instrument, first-degree identity theft and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Sumira is being charged with third-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Salen is being charged with third-degree grand larceny and false personation. They were scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 14 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
